Wanted to wait til after the holiday to announce new policies going into effect starting with new billing system and pay schedule. Artists in good standing will receive email details. Artists who are not in good standing after being given an opportunity to get in compliance are being phased out. Not gonna spend too much time on this other than to say this streamlining allows to focus our attention/resources on dedicated, committed artists who $acrifice to do what they do, helping them achieve their goals and weeding out those who don’t. No beef… trying to accommodate those who lack discipline, commitment to their projects and sacrifice takes away from those who do.

Coupla things… The industry is changing. A lot of outlets that support indie artists are closing their doors on and offline, switching formats and/or hanging on…. the problem is lack of support from indies for platforms, events or even open mics that support them. Your job as an artist isn’t simply to rap. You have to financially support the entities you want to support you. This shit ain’t free. Even at the open mic level there’s electricity, paying a sound guy, promoting the event, additional security/insurance from spots being shot up… indies cry about the few ways they can help offset the cost. They don’t want to pay $5 admission fee. Don’t buy drinks, they drink before they get there. Most don’t have names that will bring patrons, most can’t even pull 5 fans outside of family and friends who also don’t want to pay and don’t buy drinks. Indies dont’ feel they should have to pay for promo… lost count of how many cats be in my inbox trying to deflect from my work into checking their music. I do this professionally. I’m not checking for music from artists who are simply going through the motions… mass producing music because it makes them feel like they’re doing something. Releasing song after song after song without every putting anything out for real, without ever getting to a point where they feel strong enough about their craft where they’re ready to get in the game for real, drop something for real. The few who do get to that point have nothing to put towards marketing their project. They bombard people like me with “Look at me”, then when we give them attention they’re stuck on stoopid when they come to the realization that YES, this costs money. They end up spending on a few gimmicky promos designed to give the appearance they’re getting looks, listens and making moves when they’re not. The industry is full of cats like this. No matter how dope you are, if/when you fall into this category anybody that’s real about what they do is not gonna mess with you. If you’re not trying to put your music out for real, get to the next level or are not willing to invest in you don’t get at me on some ego shit, to mooch listens or a review or try to pick my brain. If you don’t see value in putting money behind your music, I don’t see value in putting our time, platform and resources behind your music.

Why most artists don’t reap the benefit of their craft… really you can stop reading after the first sentence. I see this every day on social media from cats looking for instant gratification, gimmicks and fast come ups… “ANY product can be sold, as long as there is a budget for a consistent marketing and promotion plan. There’s a market for EVERYTHING, but if you’re thinking with a “mom and pop” mentality and/or if your desire to “make money” causes you to forgo giveaways, smiles and support of other independent businesses, you REALLY don’t understand how this works. Learn how to win friends and influence others, learn peoples’ names (use them) and how to control conversation(s) and STOP trying to get rich over night and at the expense of others (price gauging) to pay a bill that you’ll be right back in jeopardy of falling short of next month!!!
