I deal with artists who make money from this or are trying to put themselves in position to make money from this, so my response when you get at me is to offer you an approach. Even if you’re nowhere near that point, I will steer you towards that path. Unless you’re a hobbyist, you’re looking to eventually earn money from your craft… The process be unsettling for a lot of artists because 1. It takes time, patience and dedication. There are no likes. No instant gratification. 2 Most confuse social media followers with real fans. Social media followers produce likes. Real fans produce revenue. How much revenue are you generating off FB/Twitter followers? 3. They put more emphasis on what will bring them likes and views and resist transitioning into doing/funding things that will bring them dollars. 4. The majority are used to doing what they see everybody else doing… even if what everybody else is doing doesn’t work. Misery truly loves company. That’s why my feed if filled with crying artists. 5. They find out social media while necessary is only one factor… 99.9%!o(MISSING)f the time they have no idea other factors even exist and if they do, they don’t think these factors apply to them. I see this every day. Every. Single. Day.
